Step A
Determine the level that is most appropriate for your child.
Phonics Level A: Ages
- Advanced K3
- K4
Note: Older 4’s will normally do better starting with Phonics Kit B (Part 002). Just teach in sequence at a pace that best fits your child’s own needs.

- Blends (single consonant and a vowel blended together to form one speech sound)

Phonics Level B: Ages
- AK4 (Older 4’s)
- K5 (5-year-olds)
- Beg. 1st (first time being schooled)

- Aa-Zz Letters/Sounds
- Blends (single consonant and a vowel blended together to form one speech sound)
- Spelling Short-Vowel Words
- Reading One-Syllable Words
Skills Taught at Level B:2
- Adding Suffix -s
- Consonant Digraphs (ck, sh, ch, tch, ng, nk, th, wh)
- Giant Blends (two or three consonants blended with a vowel)
- Beginning Grammar (naming words, describing words, and pronouns as a tool of reading comprehension)
- Manuscript Printing
Phonics Level C: Ages
- Students who have already completed Phonics Level B:2
- Older students who have accomplished Level B:2’s skills but need more thorough instruction to become a proficient reader.
Skills Taught at Level C:2
- Two-Syllable Root Words
- Compound Words
- Adding Suffixes -es, -ed, -ing
- Syllabication Patterns & Accent Rules
- Vowel Digraphs (two vowels with a single speech sound)
- Modified Vowels (ar, er, ir, or, ur)
- Diphthongs (ou, ow, oi, oy)
Skills Taught at Level C:3
- Open/Closed Syllables
- Vowel Variants
- Consonant Variants
- Silent Letters
- Common Prefixes/Suffixes
- Homonyms, Antonyms, Analogies (word puzzles), Homographs
- Reading Multi-Syllable Words
- Advanced Spelling
- Dictionary Skills
- Grammar (common/proper nouns, pronouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections, contractions)
- Writing Exercises (simple sentences)
- Diagramming Simple Sentences (to identify the “who,” “doing,” and “what” of sentences to increase reading comprehension)
- Cursive Penmanship

Simple consonant blends are introduced on a regular basis throughout the series. Each reader is filled with Christ-honoring stories which are one to three pages in length.
Where is Level C:1?
The current CCP curriculum edition reorganizes and expands the three levels of reading. This makes it possible to have additional instructions for how to more successfully develop each student’s high literacy skills and to increase spiritual understanding of the advanced Christ-Centered Phonics Drill Reader. When we made this update, level C:1 was absorbed in parts B:2 and C:2. Therefore, there is no longer a Level C:1.
