Teaching Phonics Lessons C:3:

Level C:3 lessons teach syllabication patterns and accents to help students more easily decode multi-syllable words. Although spelling rules for Cards 94-118 are taught when each flashcard is introduced, the actual SPELLING LESSON is in Phonics Workbook C:3 (Part 212).

Students will also be taught to identify the “who, doing, what” of sentences. Identifying a simple subject (“who” or “what” is doing something) and predicate (verb plus “object of what the ‘who’ is doing”) is an important step in developing reading comprehension skills. The last four parts of speech (adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, interjections) will be introduced through godly rhymes.

Pacing Suggestions:

The PACING SCHEDULE in Phonics Lessons for Flashcards 94-118 (Part 211) reflects two days per lesson plus related workbook pages. Following this pace for Levels C:2 and C:3 should normally complete Phonics Level C within a typical school year, or shortly thereafter. However, some families enjoy taking more time instead. In that case, simply follow whatever pace best fits your child’s God-given abilities.
Note to Phonics Edition 1 Users: To use the original Phonics Lessons for Flashcards 94-118. we recommend following the Home School pacing below:

  • Day 1: Teach these exercises: Card Introduction and Phonics/Spelling. Do the first two Phonics Workbook C:3 pages listed in the PACING SCHEDULE. After completing the PHONICS EXERCISE page in the workbook, introduce the SPELLING LESSON.
  • Day 2: Focus on the GRAMMAR/WRITING EXERCISE plus the second two workbook pages listed in the PACING SCHEDULE. Working on the VOCABULARY DEVELOPMENT page will reinforce the spelling words again prior to the workbook Spelling Pre-Test.
