WHY USE CHRIST-CENTERED PHONICS?
Historically, the Hebrew and Colonial children were taught "faith, virtue, and knowledge" as they also learned the alphabet through spiritual rhymes. In fact, because the New England Primer had so greatly exhorted children to fervently know God and obey His truths as they learned to read that Primer, it is still famous today. In fact, Charles H. Spurgeon shared the same vision:
As we sow we reap. Let us expect our children to know the Lord. Let us from the beginning mingle the name of Jesus with their A B C. Let them read their first lessons from the Bible. It is a remarkable thing that there is no book from which children learn to read so quickly as from the New Testament: there is a charm about that book which draws forth the infant mind."
For that same Christ-glorifying purpose, the Holy Spirit inspired the development of the Christ-Centered Phonics Program to help Christian parent-teachers actively, constantly, and purposefully teach the love, discipline, and understanding of God's Word. Helping students of any age to achieve high literacy skills so they, too, can read the Bible to know our amazing Lord God Almighty can be the greatest gift you ever give them!
This Christ-Centered Phonics Teacher's Guide to Reading (Part 200-TGR) plus the Christ-Centered Phonics Charts and Visual Aids 3-ring binder (not available separately) have replaced the former Christ-Centered Phonics Master Guide (© 2011 or 2013) as the Teacher's Guide to Reading Set (Part 200-SET) which is included in Phonics Beginners Kit A (Part 001) and Phonics Kit B (Part 002).
Re-organizing and expanding the Phonics Master Guide's three levels of reading made it possible to have additional instructions for how to more successfully develop each student's high literacy skills and to increase spiritual understanding of the advanced Christ-Centered Phonics Drill Reader (PDR) designed for K–6th grades.
Note: If you are teaching a struggling reader or someone wanting to learn English as a second language, we recommend using this Christ-Centered Phonics Teacher's Guide to Reading plus a PDR Student Edition (Part 357).
The Introduction to the Christ-Centered Phonics Teacher's Guide to Reading provides the following:
- Christ-Centered Phonics Program Chart
- Overview of the Christ-Centered Phonics Program
Part I: Phonics Drill Reader (Teacher's Copy) (pp. 1–124)
Because "... no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ" (1 Cor. 3:11), this advanced Drill Reader not only helps students acquire high literacy skills but also teaches the following key Bible Themes:
- The Fall
- The Flood
- The Law
To fully comprehend the spiritual value of these Themes, we highly recommend reading them to your student(s) in biblical order during five special FOUNDATION DAYS prior to starting to teach the PDR. Together their Scriptures characterize a mini-version of "the whole counsel of God" (Acts 20:27). Simple "how to" instructions are in Part II's "Understanding the Phonics Drill Reader" section (pp. 136-137).
Phonics Drill Reader: Student Edition (Part 357). For the convenience of both the teacher and the student during independent Phonics Drill Reader (PDR) practices and when word drills are being timed, we recommend having a PDR Student Edition in addition to this Teacher's Copy. The PDR may be purchased in one of the Option Boxes below.
Part II: Teacher's Guide to Reading (pp. 125–146)
